Coach’s Corner: Coach Dye
Coach Dye is beginning his 15th year of coaching and teaching. He first started running cross country at Brazoswood High school and went on the run for Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas State University where he was the 1998 Southland Conference Steeplechase Champion and named All-Conference in cross country and track 9 times. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Texas State and was hired full time. He coached at Texas State for three years, moved to Sharpstown Middle School and was the head boys track coach for two years. He then became head boys track and cross country coach at Kempner High School in Sugar Land for four years. Kempner’s girls and boys cross country teams won 6 district titles during Coach Dye’s tenure. He spent the next five years as the first assistant coach at Seven Lakes High School. At Seven Lakes the track team won back to back district titles and the cross country team won 2 district titles, 2 regional titles and were state runner-ups. In 2010 Coach Dye was named the Gulf Coast Scholastic Track Coaches Association’s Assistant Coach of the Year. He is USATF Level II Certified in Endurance Events, Sprints, Hurdles, Relays and Jumping events. Coach Dye has been married to his wife Leslie for 11 years and they have two children, Clara and Charlie.
